Mervin Windsor

Cultural Background: Haisla – Heiltsuk

Mervin Windsor, was born in Kitimat 1964. He comes from a long line of artists originating in Bella Bella. He developed his love for First Nations art in high school. His initial inspiration came from renown Haisla artist Lyle Wilson and his older brother Ron Jr. and some friends in high school.

One of Mervin’s main accomplishments was a commissioned piece he did for the Rotary Club of Kitimat to depict the four way test (The Rotary international motto – in which they believe) in native art form! For that particular print, there were buyers from around the world, such as from Great Britain, Germany, Australia, etc. Other prints, such as “Eclipse of the Moon” were purchased and sent to Saudi Arabia. One painting was purchased in Vancouver and presented to the international soccer team of New Zealand! Also, one of Mervin’s paintings of the “Spirit Bear” was presented to former premier of BC, Mike Harcourt, after he recovered from an accident.

 

 

Mervin Windsor est né à Kitimat en 1964. Il vient d'une longue lignée d'artistes originaires de Bella Bella. Il a développé son amour pour l'art des Premières Nations à l'école secondaire. Son inspiration initiale est venue des artistes Haisla reconnus Lyle Wilson et son frère aîné Ron Jr., ainsi que de quelques amis à l'école secondaire.

Une des principales réalisations de Mervin était une pièce commandée qu'il a fait pour le Club Rotary de Kitimat pour dépeindre le Critère des Quatres Questions (La devise du Rotary International – dans laquelle ils croient) sous forme de d'art autochtone! (Vous pouvez la voir au www.kitimatrotary.org pour savoir ce qui en est et qui a été impliqué.) Pour l'imprimé en particulier, il y avait des acheteurs du monde entier, tels que la Grande-Bretagne, l'Allemagne, l'Australie, etc. D'autres imprimés, tels qu' “Eclipse de Lune”  ont été achetés et envoyés en Arabie Saoudite. Une peinture a été achetée à Vancouver et présentée à l'équipe de football international de la Nouvelle-Zélande! Aussi, l'une des peintures de Marvin s'intulant ''Ours Spirituel'' a été présenté à l'ancien premier ministre de la Colombie-Britannique, Mike Harcourt, après avoir récupéré d'un accident.
