Vincent Van Gogh

After a short career as a clerk in London and Paris, Vincent Van Gogh oriented himself towards a dramatic career as a painter. Van Gogh, together with his brother Theo, went to Paris and met Toulouse Lautrec, Bernard, and Guillerman.

His stormy relationship with Paul Gauguin was worsened by Van Gogh’s periodic fits of insanity. It was only after his death that the real extent of his innovation in art was clearly understood. Van Gogh is now considered one of the greatest masters in modern art.

Après une brève carrière de commis à Londres et à Paris, Vincent Van Gogh a opté pour une carrière de peintre pleine de drame et de souffrances. Van Gogh s’est rendu à Paris en compaignie de son frère Théo, où il a non seulement rencontré Toulouse Lautrec, Bernard et Guillemin.

Son amitié avec Paul Gauguin a été marquée par les difficultés at les contrastes et mise à l’épreuve par les crises de folie périodiques de Van Gogh. Ce n’est qu’après sa mort qu’on a compris à quel point Van Gogh a innové en matière d’art. On le considère maintenant comme l’un des véritables maîtres de l’art moderne.
