Joshua Pawis-Steckley

Cultural Background: Ojibway, Ontario Canada

Born in Barrie Ontario, Joshua is a member of the Wasauksing First Nation.  He is a woodland artist who is dedicated to restoring the arts and stories of the Ojibway.

Joshua learned to draw by doodling in his school notebooks and drawing for fun with his brother and mother. Most if his family is very creative, both his mother and Nokomis are talented quill box makers. He was never formally trained in acrylic painting and started practicing his craft in his early 20s. He graduated from the Graphic Design Program at NSCC in Halifax, NS in 2014 and has a passion for hand printed artwork. He now lives in Vancouver, BC where he works as a screen printer and paints at home.

Né à Barrie en Ontario, Joshua est un membre de la Première nation Wasauksing.  C’est un artiste des régions boisées qui se consacre à la restauration des arts et des histoires des Ojibways.

Joshua a appris à dessiner en griffonnant dans ses cahiers d’école et en dessinant pour le plaisir avec son frère et sa mère. La plupart des membres de sa famille sont très créatifs, sa mère et Nokomis sont tous deux de talentueux fabricants de boîtes en piquants de porc-épic. Il n’a jamais été officiellement formé à la peinture acrylique et a commencé à exercer son métier dès l’âge de 20 ans. Il a obtenu son diplôme du programme de design graphique du NSCC à Halifax, en 2014, et se passionne pour les illustrations imprimées à la main. Il vit maintenant à Vancouver, en Colombie-Britannique, où il travaille comme imprimeur sérigraphe et peint à la maison.
