Qavavau Manumie

Qavavau was born in Brandon, Manitoba in 1958 where his mother, Paunichea, was hospitalized for treatment of tuberculosis. He returned to Cape Dorset as a very young child and has lived there since.

For several years Qavavau has worked for the Kinngait Studios as a printmaker – first in the lithography studio and more recently in the stonecut studio. He is an accomplished and precise printmaker who enjoys the opportunity to demonstrate printmaking techniques to young artists and visitors to the studio.

Qavavau lives with his wife and son Peter in Cape Dorset.

Qavavau est né à Brandon, au Manitoba, en 1958, où sa mère, Paunichea, a été hospitalisée pour un traitement contre la tuberculose. Il est rentré à Cape Dorset très jeune et y vit depuis.

Pendant plusieurs années, Qavavau a travaillé pour les studios Kinngait en tant que graveur; d’abord dans le studio de lithographie et plus récemment dans le studio de pierres taillées. Il est un graveur accompli et précis, qui profite de l’occasion pour montrer ses techniques de gravure à de jeunes artistes et aux visiteurs du studio.

Qavavau vit avec son épouse et son fils Peter à Cape Dorset.
