Valentina LaPier

Cultural Background: Blackfeet Tribe, Montana

Valentina LaPier was born in Browning, Montana and is an enrolled member of the Blackfeet Tribe. Raised in various places throughout the western United States, Valentina moved back to the Blackfeet Reservation in 2000. Currently, she splits her time between East Glacier and Kalispell, Montana.

Valentina began painting as a young girl, selling her first free-form painting at the age of fourteen. She became a full-time artist in 1987, after returning to Montana from Washington. Valentina was mentored by David Robey, Sr., a long time Montana artist. She works primarily with acrylics, though her favorite medium is watercolor. She admires the works of Braque, Motherwell, Klee, and Kandinsky and her paintings reflect their influence.

Valentina shares the landscape of her heart through her painted images, weaving together her life as a 21st Century artist, her Blackfeet heritage and her vibrant, mystical soul. These images and the ability to capture them on canvas come to Valentina as gifts. She graciously offers these gifts to us with their power and beauty.

Valentina LaPier est née à Browning, dans le Montana. Elle fait partie de la tribu des Pieds-Noirs. Élevée dans plusieurs villes de l’ouest des États-Unis, Valentina est retournée vivre dans la réserve indienne des Pieds-Noirs en 2000. Elle partage actuellement son temps entre East Glacier et Kalispell, dans le Montana.

Valentina a commencé à peindre lorsqu’elle était enfant. Elle a vendu sa première peinture libre à quatorze ans. Elle se consacre entièrement à l’art depuis 1987, après avoir quitté Washington pour retourner dans le Montana. Valentina a été formée par David Robey Sr, un artiste de longue date originaire du Montana. Elle travaille essentiellement à l’acrylique, bien que sa technique préférée soit l’aquarelle. Elle admire les œuvres de Braque, Motherwell, Klee et Kandinsky. D’ailleurs, on retrouve leur influence dans ses peintures.

Valentina partage son cœur à travers ses peintures qui conjuguent sa vie d’artiste du 21ème siècle, son héritage Pieds-Noirs ainsi que son âme à la fois vibrante et mystique.
