Throughout her life, Brigitte Curt has been a researcher – researching in aesthetics, and searching for the beauty in nature, different cultures, societies and individuals. The many painters within her family exposed her early on to artistic endeavors, critical thinking and the pursuit of creative achievements.
Her life-long study of human esthetics and its correlation with the natural world began with her first studies in Philosophy at the University of Paris. Later, she earned degrees in ethnography and ethno-sociology at the University of Algers, Algeria and Adibjan, Ivory Coast, Africa. She worked, studied and traveled through North Africa, particularly among the Touaregs in the Sahara and the rainforests of West Africa. During this time, she studied the esthetics and techniques of the traditional artists of Africa. She traveled extensively, capturing the beauty of the African villages and their people through photography. The extraordinary beauty of African light left its mark on her mind and soul.
After almost ten years, Brigitte returned to Paris. She began painting semi-abstract, cosmic landscapes in pastels and mixed media. She also devoted time to working with her African photography.
In 1987 Brigitte began to focus more on life drawing, the techniques of oil painting, and her beloved Plein Air landscape painting. In 1992, Brigitte began teaching Plein Air landscape painting. She currently teaches multiple classes and conducts workshops in France every summer.
Travel is still a large part of Brigitte’s life. Within the last ten years, she has painted in Australia, China, and several times in Russia, where she organized a landscape workshop in association with the School of Realist Art in St. Petersburg. She also spends time in France particularly in the high plateau of northern Provence. Three months of the year, Brigitte enjoys her time there, painting mainly in oils amidst the lavender fields.

Tout au long de sa vie, Brigitte Curt a été une chercheuse – explorant l’esthétique et recherchant la beauté dans la nature, les cultures, les sociétés et les individus. Issue d’une famille de peintres, elle a très tôt été initiée aux démarches artistiques, à la pensée critique et à la quête de réalisations créatives.

Son étude approfondie de l’esthétique humaine et sa relation avec le monde naturel ont commencé par des études de philosophie à l’Université de Paris. Elle a ensuite obtenu des diplômes en ethnographie et en ethno-sociologie à l’Université d’Alger et à Abidjan, en Côte d’Ivoire. Elle a travaillé, étudié et voyagé à travers l’Afrique du Nord, notamment auprès des Touaregs dans le Sahara, ainsi que dans les forêts tropicales d’Afrique de l’Ouest, où elle a étudié les techniques des artistes traditionnels africains. Photographe passionnée, elle a capturé la beauté des villages africains et de leurs habitants. La lumière africaine, si particulière, a profondément marqué son esprit et son âme.

Après près de dix ans, Brigitte est retournée à Paris. Elle s’est alors tournée vers la peinture de paysages cosmiques semi-abstraits au pastel et aux techniques mixtes, tout en travaillant sur ses photographies africaines. En 1987, elle a approfondi le dessin d’après modèle vivant, la peinture à l’huile et sa passion pour la peinture en plein air. Depuis 1992, elle enseigne la peinture en plein air et organise chaque été plusieurs ateliers en France.

Le voyage demeure une part importante de sa vie artistique. Au cours des dix dernières années, elle a peint en Australie, en Chine et à plusieurs reprises en Russie, où elle a organisé un atelier en collaboration avec l’École d’Art Réaliste de Saint-Pétersbourg. Elle passe aussi beaucoup de temps en Provence, sur le haut plateau du nord, où elle peint principalement à l’huile au milieu des champs de lavande, pendant trois mois chaque année.
