Cultural Background: Denesuline (Chipewyan), Yellowknives Dene First Nation

Dawn is a self taught First Nations Artist, born in Yellowknife, NT. She is a direct descendant of Chief Snuff of the Yellow Knifes, one of the signers of the original Treaty 8 with the Government of Canada.
Dawn has devoted herself to painting full time. Her first gallery was opened in Yellowknife in 1999, where she welcomed visitors and collectors from across Canada and around the world that delighted in the vibrant colours and playful spirit of her work.
In 2010, Dawn moved to the Annapolis Valley in Nova Scotia where she opened her gallery in Annapolis Royal, but in 2012, due to her husband’s failing health she was forced to close her popular gallery to care for him. Just over a year since the passing of her husband, in June 2014, Dawn and her present partner purchased a decommissioned United Church building in Bridgetown, Nova Scotia. This building has been renovated and transformed into her new Gallery where she showcases her art work and new products to delight her many fans, old and new

Dawn est une artiste autodidacte des Premières nations née à Yellowknife, dans les Territoires du Nord-Ouest. Elle est une descendante directe du chef Snuff des Yellow Knifes, l’un des signataires du Traité original n° 8 avec le gouvernement du Canada.
Dawn s’est consacrée à la peinture à temps plein. Sa première galerie a été ouverte à Yellowknife en 1999, où elle a accueilli des visiteurs et des collectionneurs du Canada et du monde entier ravis par les couleurs vibrantes et l’esprit ludique de son travail.
En 2010, Dawn s’est installée dans la vallée d’Annapolis, en Nouvelle-Écosse, où elle a ouvert sa galerie à Annapolis Royal. En 2012, en raison de la santé défaillante de son mari, elle a été contrainte de fermer sa célèbre galerie pour s’occuper de lui. Un peu plus d’un an après le décès de son mari, en juin 2014, Dawn et son partenaire actuel ont acheté un édifice désaffecté de l’Église Unie à Bridgetown, en Nouvelle-Écosse. Ce bâtiment a été rénové et transformé en sa nouvelle galerie où elle présente ses œuvres d’art et de nouveaux produits pour ravir ses nombreux fans, anciens et nouveaux.
