“I have been surrounded by art all my life.”

Entertainment came in the form of building something, whether it was clay, paint, wood or paper. We were always creating something. I can remember painting with my mother on the same canvas. She would start painting at the top of the canvas and I would start at the bottom. When I grew tired, she would finish the painting.

My parents opened the Ann Jackson Gallery in 1971. Working in the family business allowed me the time to quietly paint, which was something that I loved to do.
In 1999, I gave birth to a medically fragile child. His only chance to live was to rely on machines for the first four years of his life. I wanted to support other families who had medically fragile children but who did not have the support that I had. So I began having fundraisers. The first fundraiser, called Auction for Hope, was held at the gallery. People were excited to donate money for my paintings! It was at this event that I knew what my mission in life was: to paint and do good will.

Most of my paintings are of a turbulent sky crossing over a vast landscape, but somewhere above there is always a glimpse of a brighter day coming. I believe through adversity comes tranquility, and I want my paintings to reflect hope and tranquility.

I love all art, and found that creating abstracts gave me a good balance in my creative process. Although they are so different from my traditional landscapes, they give me great pleasure and the opportunity to just play with my paint.

Much of my inspiration comes from my travels through Morocco and France. Morocco is a country of many colors, with rich forests, mountains and the Sahara. With its location between the Atlantic and Mediterranean, it is truly awe inspiring. The beautiful scenic landscape in the south of France has always been a great influence on me. My favorite place of all is Aix-En-Provence and, like so many famous artists before me, I go there for inspiration.

Le divertissement, pour moi, c’était de construire quelque chose — que ce soit en argile, en peinture, en bois ou en papier. Nous étions toujours en train de créer. Je me souviens peindre avec ma mère sur la même toile. Elle commençait en haut, et moi en bas. Quand je me fatiguais, c’était elle qui finissait le tableau.

Mes parents ont ouvert la galerie Ann Jackson en 1971. Travailler dans l’entreprise familiale m’a permis de peindre tranquillement, ce que j’adorais faire.
En 1999, j’ai donné naissance à un enfant médicalement fragile. Ses seules chances de survie étaient de dépendre de machines pendant ses quatre premières années. Je voulais soutenir d’autres familles dans la même situation qui, elles, n’avaient pas le même appui. J’ai donc commencé à organiser des collectes de fonds. La première, appelée Auction for Hope, a eu lieu à la galerie. Les gens étaient enthousiastes à l’idée de faire des dons pour mes tableaux ! C’est là que j’ai compris ma mission dans la vie : peindre et faire le bien.

La plupart de mes peintures représentent un ciel turbulent au-dessus d’un vaste paysage, mais quelque part, au-dessus des nuages, une lumière plus claire apparaît toujours. Je crois que la tranquillité naît de l’adversité, et je veux que mes œuvres reflètent l’espoir et la sérénité.

J’aime tout type d’art, et j’ai découvert que créer des abstraits me donne un bon équilibre dans mon processus créatif. Bien que très différents de mes paysages traditionnels, ils me procurent beaucoup de plaisir et me permettent simplement de jouer avec la peinture.

Beaucoup de mon inspiration vient de mes voyages au Maroc et en France. Le Maroc est un pays aux mille couleurs, avec ses forêts riches, ses montagnes et le Sahara. Situé entre l’Atlantique et la Méditerranée, c’est un lieu véritablement impressionnant. Les beaux paysages du sud de la France m’ont toujours beaucoup influencée. Mon endroit préféré est Aix-en-Provence, et comme tant d’artistes célèbres avant moi, j’y vais chercher mon inspiration.
