Gail Howarth grew up on a farm in West Michigan. Gail’s passion for nature and photography began early. She received her first camera when she was 8. It was love at the first click of the shutter. Farm animals, friends, and fields were her first subjects.
Gail received a Bachelor of Science Degree from Michigan State University in Park and Natural Resources and worked as a park ranger or researcher in the field for ten years. After that she spent many years working in the dental field as a consultant. The camera sat idle during most of these years.
In 2011, both of Gail’s parents passed away on the same day. This event sparked a life changing journey that continues to this day. It began with immense sorrow that lingered for over a year. One day she felt compelled to pick up her long neglected camera and go for a walk. It was the first step out of darkness. Gail began to focus on the abundant beauty of nature through the viewfinder on the camera. It healed her heart.
A photographer becomes acutely aware of “the moment”. It is Gail’s desire to transport the viewer to that moment.
Gail lives with her two cats on a small lake. She calls her place the Lakehouse. In addition to landscape photography, Gail enjoys capturing images of people that are raw and real, and the nesting pair of Sandhill Cranes that live in her back yard.

Gail Howarth a grandi dans une ferme dans l’ouest du Michigan. Sa passion pour la nature et la photographie a commencé tôt. Elle a reçu son premier appareil photo à l’âge de 8 ans. Ce fut le coup de foudre dès le premier déclenchement. Les animaux de la ferme, ses amis et les champs furent ses premiers sujets.

Gail a obtenu un baccalauréat en sciences de l’Université d’État du Michigan, spécialisé en parcs et ressources naturelles, et a travaillé comme garde-parc ou chercheuse sur le terrain pendant dix ans. Par la suite, elle a passé plusieurs années dans le domaine dentaire comme consultante. Pendant cette période, son appareil photo est resté presque inutilisé.

En 2011, ses deux parents sont décédés le même jour. Cet événement a déclenché un cheminement de vie qui se poursuit encore aujourd’hui. Il a commencé par un immense chagrin qui a duré plus d’un an. Un jour, elle a ressenti le besoin de reprendre son appareil photo longtemps délaissé et d’aller faire une promenade. Ce fut le premier pas hors des ténèbres. Gail a alors commencé à se concentrer sur la beauté abondante de la nature à travers le viseur de son appareil photo. Cela a guéri son cœur.

Un photographe devient très sensible au " moment ". Gail souhaite transporter le spectateur dans ce moment précis.

Gail vit avec ses deux chats au bord d’un petit lac qu’elle appelle la Maison du Lac. En plus de la photographie de paysages, elle aime capturer des images de personnes brutes et authentiques, ainsi que le couple de grues du Canada qui niche dans son arrière-cour.
