Natasha Barnes is a South African artist, born in 1969. She has been painting since the age of seven. Her natural talent and pure passion for painting has led this self-taught artist to develop a profound style, exhibiting expressionism, color and movement. Her paintings are inspirations found in her travels and the love for the rich African images surrounding her life.

Apart from a few art lessons as a child, Natasha has had no formal art training. After completing school, she studied Cordon Bleu cookery and worked as a cookery editor and food stylist for a leading South African Magazine, before opening her own cookery school. Equally talented as a chef, she is a master at designing wedding cakes, sugar craft and floral arrangements. During her cookery years Natasha painted part time, and exhibited extensively in South Africa. Her love for the brush finally led to the decision to give up everything and paint professionally.

Natasha paints in water based mediums, the paint application is thick and sometimes textured. Her subject dictates the flow of the paint. Abstracts, cats, African landscape and flowers provide endless inspiration; they are absorbed in the mind and transferred to the canvas without looking at the subject.

Her work can be found in corporate and private collections and is exhibited extensively worldwide.

Natasha Barnes est une artiste sud-africaine née en 1969. Elle peint depuis l’âge de sept ans. Son talent naturel et sa passion pure pour la peinture ont permis à cette artiste autodidacte de développer un style profond, mêlant expressionnisme, couleur et mouvement. Ses œuvres s’inspirent de ses voyages et de son amour pour les riches images africaines qui l’entourent.

À l’exception de quelques cours d’art durant son enfance, Natasha n’a reçu aucune formation artistique formelle. Après ses études, elle a suivi une formation en cuisine Cordon Bleu et a travaillé comme rédactrice culinaire et styliste alimentaire pour un magazine sud-africain de premier plan, avant d’ouvrir sa propre école de cuisine. Tout aussi douée en cuisine, elle excelle dans la création de gâteaux de mariage, l’art du sucre et les compositions florales. Pendant ses années en cuisine, Natasha peignait à temps partiel et exposait largement en Afrique du Sud. Son amour pour le pinceau l’a finalement poussée à tout abandonner pour se consacrer pleinement à la peinture.

Natasha utilise des médiums à base d’eau, appliquant une peinture épaisse et parfois texturée. Le sujet guide le mouvement de la peinture. Les abstraits, les chats, les paysages africains et les fleurs sont ses sources d’inspiration infinies; elle les absorbe mentalement pour les retranscrire sur la toile sans regarder le sujet.

Son œuvre figure dans des collections privées et corporatives et est largement exposée à travers le monde.
