G.A. Hickman has been involved in the art field, and in art related businesses, most of her life. Her career has included photographer, gallery administrator, publisher, and educator. Since the millennium she has followed her true passion and dedicates her time and attention to being a visual artist, finding creative expression through painting.

After receiving a BA in Fine Arts from the University of British Columbia, majoring in History of Art, she joined the staff of the Vancouver Art Gallery as an Extension and Education officer. In this capacity she traveled throughout the Province of B.C. installing art exhibitions and lecturing to communities about art.

She studied photography informally for several years and also while she attended Emily Carr University of Art and Design, later graduating from the ECUAD Curatorial program.

An active supporter of the Arts community, she is a member of the Vancouver Art Gallery and VAG Associates, Contemporary Art Gallery, CARFAC – Canadian Artists’ Representation, Alumni Association of ECUAD, Federation of Canadian Artists, and Gabriola Arts Council. Hickman has also served on the Board of Directors of Presentation House Gallery in North Vancouver, and chaired its Fundraising Committee for several years.

Hickman has exhibited her work in galleries throughout British Columbia. Her paintings are included in numerous private and public collections throughout North America and Europe, including Export Development Canada, the VGH & UBC Hospital Foundation, Nita Lake Lodge in Whistler, BC, and the Office of the Premier during the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver. She currently works out of her studio on Gabriola Island, BC.

G.A. Hickman a été impliquée dans le domaine des arts et dans des entreprises liées à l’art pendant la majeure partie de sa vie. Sa carrière a inclus des rôles de photographe, administratrice de galerie, éditrice et éducatrice. Après avoir obtenu un baccalauréat en beaux-arts à l’Université de la Colombie-Britannique, avec une spécialisation en histoire de l’art, elle a rejoint l’équipe de la Vancouver Art Gallery à titre d’agent d’extension et d’éducation. Dans ce rôle, elle a voyagé à travers la province de la Colombie-Britannique pour installer des expositions d’art et donner des conférences sur l’art dans différentes communautés.

Elle a étudié la photographie de manière informelle pendant plusieurs années, ainsi qu’à l’Université Emily Carr d’art et de design, où elle a ensuite obtenu un diplôme en muséologie.

Soutenant activement la communauté artistique, elle est membre de la Vancouver Art Gallery et des VAG Associates, de la Contemporary Art Gallery, de CARFAC – la représentation des artistes canadiens, de l’association des anciens élèves d’ECUAD, de la Fédération des artistes du Canada, ainsi que du Gabriola Arts Council. Hickman a aussi siégé au conseil d’administration de la Presentation House Gallery à North Vancouver et a présidé son comité de collecte de fonds pendant plusieurs années.

Hickman a exposé ses œuvres dans des galeries partout en Colombie-Britannique. Ses peintures font partie de nombreuses collections privées et publiques en Amérique du Nord et en Europe, notamment Export Development Canada, la Fondation de l’Hôpital VGH & UBC, le Nita Lake Lodge à Whistler, C.-B., et le bureau du Premier ministre lors des Jeux olympiques d’hiver de 2010 à Vancouver. Elle travaille actuellement dans son atelier situé sur l’île Gabriola, en Colombie-Britannique.
