Born in Dublin, Ireland in 1978, Dermot O’Kane has had a passion for photography since he received his first camera as a gift at the age of ten. It was to remain a hobby for some time though, while Dermot acquired a degree in philosophy and classical civilization from University College Dublin, before traveling and working around the world. He then returned to Dublin to study for a diploma in photography and moved to Canada in 2005.

Originally based in Calgary, Alberta, Dermot began his photographic career creating fine art images of the Rocky Mountains and the prairies. Following a coast-to-coast trip across Canada in the summer of 2009 Dermot and his wife Kerri moved to Niagara Falls, Ontario, where they are now based. Dermot exhibits his work at some of the biggest art shows in Canada in cities such as Calgary, Vancouver, Ottawa and Toronto.

Dermot is an active member of the Professional Photographers of Canada, the Canadian Association for Photographic Art and the Professional Photographers of America. He has received awards from each of these organizations including a National Accreditation in Fine Art from the PPOC in 2009 and a Kodak Gallery Award for Photographic Excellence in 2010.

Né à Dublin, en Irlande, en 1978, Dermot O’Kane a développé une passion pour la photographie dès qu’il a reçu son premier appareil photo à l’âge de dix ans. Cela est toutefois resté un passe-temps pendant un certain temps, alors que Dermot obtenait un diplôme en philosophie et en civilisation classique à l’Université College Dublin, avant de voyager et de travailler un peu partout dans le monde. Il est ensuite retourné à Dublin pour suivre un diplôme en photographie, puis a déménagé au Canada en 2005.

Initialement basé à Calgary, en Alberta, Dermot a commencé sa carrière photographique en créant des images artistiques des Rocheuses et des Prairies. Après un voyage à travers le Canada d’un océan à l’autre durant l’été 2009, Dermot et sa conjointe Kerri se sont installés à Niagara Falls, en Ontario, où ils résident désormais. Dermot expose ses œuvres dans certains des plus grands salons d’art au Canada, notamment à Calgary, Vancouver, Ottawa et Toronto.

Dermot est membre actif des Professional Photographers of Canada, de la Canadian Association for Photographic Art et des Professional Photographers of America. Il a reçu des prix de chacune de ces organisations, incluant une accréditation nationale en beaux-arts du PPOC en 2009 et un Kodak Gallery Award pour l’excellence photographique en 2010.
