Photographer, Francesc Català-Roca (1922 - 1998) trained with his father, Pere Català Pic, one of the main representatives of the Catalan photographic avant-garde. In 1948, Català-Roca began working independently as a photojournalist for magazines such as "Destino" and "Revista.” His work dealt with a variety of themes, from landscapes to cityscapes, from artistic documentation to ethnography.

Francesc Català-Roca earned diverse awards and distinctions throughout his professional career. He was awarded the "Ciutat de Barcelona" photography award in 1951 and awarded the Photography Medal in 1952. In 1988, his birth town held a Gaudí exhibition (Institut d'Estudis Vallencs, Valls) where his images reflected a personal way of perceiving the architect's work. Many exhibitions of his work have been held in Europe, Asia and the Americas. In 1998 he was dedicated an homage by the Barcelona organization, "Primavera Fotográfica.” In May 2000, an extensive retrospective exhibition of his work was held in La Fundación Joan Miró, Barcelona.

En 1948, Català-Roca commence à travailler de façon indépendante comme photojournaliste pour des magazines comme Destino et Revista. Son œuvre couvre une grande diversité de thèmes, allant des paysages ruraux aux scènes urbaines, en passant par la documentation artistique et l’ethnographie.

Tout au long de sa carrière, Francesc Català-Roca a reçu de nombreux prix et distinctions. Il remporte le prix Ciutat de Barcelona en photographie en 1951, puis la Médaille de la Photographie en 1952. En 1988, sa ville natale lui rend hommage avec une exposition sur Gaudí (Institut d'Estudis Vallencs, Valls), dans laquelle ses images offrent une lecture personnelle et originale de l’œuvre de l’architecte.

Son travail a été présenté dans de nombreuses expositions à travers l’Europe, l’Asie et les Amériques. En 1998, il reçoit un hommage de l’organisation barcelonaise Primavera Fotográfica. Puis en mai 2000, une grande rétrospective de son œuvre est organisée à la Fondation Joan Miró à Barcelone.
