Cultural Background: Inuit
Since 1959, the West Baf n Eskimo Cooperative, which operates Kinngait Studios in Cape Dorset, Nunavut, has enjoyed an international reputation for the exquisite prints, drawings and carvings created by its Inuit artist-members. Through the provision of artist’s supplies, studio space and professional development opportunities, Kinngait Studios has played a crucial role in developing four generations of Inuit artists such as Kenojuak Ashevak and her contemporaries.
