Len Rooney

Born in 1960 in Nelson, New Zealand, Leonard emigrated to Canada with his family in 1968. He spent the next seven years living in Southern Ontario before settling in Vancouver in 1975.

At age seven, Leonard's artistic talents began showing and being an artist quickly became his life’s ambition. Upon graduating from high school, he went on to study graphic design at Emily Carr College of Art & Design in Vancouver. Following this education he spent the next nine years working as a commercial artist and graphic designer.

He began painting with acrylics on canvas in 1985 and has steadily developed a style of realism which he calls, “a refined impressionism.” “I work with all of my senses. I try to create a feeling of actually ‘being there’.

Né en 1960 à Nelson, Nouvelle-Zélande, Leonard a émigré au Canada avec sa famille en 1968. Il a habité le sud de l’Ontario durant les sept années suivantes avant de s’établir à Vancouver en 1975.

Ses talents artistiques se sont manifestés dès l’âge de sept ans, et il a vite développé l’ambition de devenir un artiste. Après avoir complété avec succès son cours secondaire, il est allé étudier les arts graphiques au collège artistique et du design Emily Carr de Vancouver. Son éducation terminée, il a passé les neuf procaines années à travailler en tant qu’artiste commercial et concepteur graphique.

Il s’est mis à peindre avec les acryliques sur toile en 1985, et il a progressivement développé un style réaliste qu’il qualifie d’”impressionnisme raffiné”. “Je travaille avec tous mes sens. Je tente de créer un sentiment de présence actuelle sure les lieux.”
